STANISLAS DE BARBEYRAC, TENOR

Born in 1984, Stanislas de Barbeyrac is one of the most exciting new tenors to have emerged in recent seasons.

De Barbeyrac’s engagements for the 2015/16 season include Le Chevalier de la Force in Dialogues des Carmelites at Dutch National Opera and Bayerische Staatsoper, Tamino in Die Zauberflöte and Leandre in Le Medecin malgre lui at Grande Theatre de Geneve, Macduff in Macbeth at Opera de Marseille, and Don Ottavio in Don Giovanni at Drottningsholms Slottsteater in Sweden. Future engagements include his North American debut as Don Ottavio at San Francisco Opera, Armide at Wiener Staatsoper in Vienna, and Tamino, Benedict in Beatrice et Benedict and Pylade in Iphigenie en Tauride at Opera National de Paris.

Highlights from de Barbeyrac’s 2014/15 season included Narraboth in Salome at Teatro Municipal in Sao Paulo, Paris in La belle Helene at Opera d’Avignon in France, Admete in Alceste at Opera National de Paris, Davidde penitente for his debut at the Salzburg Festival, and Arbace in the new production of Idomeneo for his debut at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden. In the 2013/2014 season, he sang Evandre in Alceste at Opera National de Paris, Lord Arturo Bucklaw in Lucia di Lammermoor at Opera de Marseille, and Tamino in Die Zauberflöte for his debut at the Aix en Provence Festival in France.

Stanislas de Barberyac completed his musical education at the Conservatoire de Bordeaux, where he first studied with his current vocal mentor Lionel Sarazzin. De Barbeyrac began his career in both supporting and leading roles, with appearances at many of the French theatres. Other roles in his repertoire include Cassio in Otello, Alfredo in La Traviata, and Walther von der Vogelweide in Tannhäuser. De Barbeyrac has also performed with orchestras in numerous works, including Mendelssohn’s Elijah, Haydn’s The Creation, Mozart’s Requiem, Puccini’s Messa di Gloria, and Berlioz’s L’enfance du Christ and Te Deum.

De Barbeyrac has won numerous prestigious vocal competitions in France and was a prizewinner at the International Competition of Queen Elizabeth in 2011. In 2014, he was named “Revelation Artiste Lyrique” by the prestigious French competition Victoires de la Musique.

De Barbeyrac’s 2014 performance in Die Zauberflöte at the Aix en Provence Festival garnered accolades from both the public and the press. “Stanislas de Barbeyrac’s Tamino… marked a new and exciting step forward in the young French tenor’s career; he produced a firm line in the portrait aria and sustained an ardent lyricism throughout the evening.” – Opera News (July 10th, 2014)
